CCTNS was conceived as a Mission Mode Project fully sponsored by the Government of India under the national e-Governance Programme. CCTNS, launch will not disrupt Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) programme which had been initiated to computerize and automate the functioning of police stations with a view to bringing in efficiency and transparency at police station.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS).
Here are few details about the project
-Total cost would be around 2000 crore Rs,
-Part of 11th five year plan
-To be Initiated by Home Affairs Ministry
-To be Implemented by National Crime Records Bureau
-Major part of project in hands of State Govt
-Certain core components of project only in hands of central Govt.
-Central Govt also would be monitoring and reviewing the implementation of project.
The project aim is “investigation of crime and detection of criminals” in the real time which is a critical requirement today for internal security.
It will also:
• Facilitate collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, transfer and sharing of data
and Information among Police Stations, District, State headquarters and
other organisation/agencies, including those at Government of India level.
• Help in enabling and assisting the senior Police Officers in better management
of Police Force
• Keeping tract of the progress of the crime and criminal investigation and
prosecution Cases, including progress of cases in the court
• Help in reducing the manual and redundant record keeping.
This project aims to fulfil the above mentioned objectives over a period of three years.
