Ustad Ali Akbar Khan: A sarod maestro

Ustad Ali Akbar Khan has passed away at his San Francisco residence on 19th June morning.
He was 88 and survived by his wife and 3 sons and daughter. From last four months his health condition was deteroriating.
He was recepient of Padma Bhushan in 1967 and Padma Vibhusan in1989.
He was master of 25 stringed Sarod and designated as "Living National Treasure in India".

Concert violinist the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin called Ali Akbar Khan, "An absolute genius...the greatest musician in the world," and many have considered him the "Indian Johann Sebastian Bach."

QUICK FACTS ABOUT USTAD ALI AKBAR KHAN
-Born in 1992 in East Bengal now Bangladesh
-Started music at age of 3
-Belonged to Mian Tansen Gharana
-Gave his first public appearance in Allahabad at age of 13.
-Founded Ali Akbar college of Music in Calcutta on 1956.
-1997 he got Asian Paints Shiromani Award- Hall of Fame
