Dr. Manmohan Singh
· Born on 26 September, 1932, in Punjab province of undivided India.
· 14th Prime minister of India.
· First person of Sikh faith to hold the office
· Completed his education from reputed universities like Cambridge and Oxford.
· Master degree in Economics in 1957, D. Phil in Economics from Nuffield College at Oxford University in 1962.
· Joined Government of India as Economic Advisor in the Commerce Ministry in 1971, appointed as Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance in 1972.
· Governor of Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985.
· Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India from 1985 to 1987.
· Served as India’s finance minister from 1991 to 1996.
· Appointed as the prime minister on May 22, 2004
· Chairperson of Planning Commission of India from 2004 to till now.
· Minister of External affair of India from 2005 to 2006
· Minister of finance of India from 2008 to 2009.
· Reappointed as the Prime Minister of India on May 22, 2009 for 2nd consecutive term.
· Author of "India's Export Trends and Prospects for Self-Sustained Growth" Clarendon Press, Oxford University, 1964
· Also published a large number of articles in various economic journals
· Awarded as the Padma Vibhushan in 1987,
· Euro Money Award for Finance Minister in 1993,
· Asia Money Award for Finance Minister of the Year ( 1993 and 1994),
· Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award of the Indian Science Congress in 1995.
· He is known for his economic reforms he initiated during his stint as Finance Minister in 1991.
