15th Railway Budget: Highlights

Mamata Banarjee Railway Minister today presented 15th Railway budget. She emphasizes on development of common man and should not be restricted for few.

The highlights of Budget are as follows:-

  • Good Quality food, adequate water, cleanliness, punctuality of train timings.
  • “JANTA KHANA” to ensure regional and national cuisines.
  • 50 Railway stations to be made World Class with all type of facilities.
  • 309 stations from 375 are identified and will be updated.
  • At least one doctor on all long distance trains.
  • On Board Infotainment services on Rajdhani, Shatabdi long distance trains.
  • AC coaches for carrying Fruits, Vegetables.
  • SMS updates to be provided for waitlisted tickets.
  • 5000 Post offices across the country will be selling railway tickets under “MAA, MAATI, MAANUSH” scheme.
  • AC double decker coaches for Inter city travel.
  • For security commandos to be deployed, woman commandos also included for woman passengers.
  • MP’s to identify one location of their choice for computerized reservation center.
  • Mobile ticketing.(Vans will be selling the tickets) called “MUSHKIL AASAN”
  • Toilets quality to be upgraded and made same as in Airplanes.
  • Railways land bank to be used for industrialization.
  • “IJJAT” new scheme is announced in which 25 Rs monthly tickets will be available for poor for 100 km travel whom monthly income is less than or equal to Rs 1500/-.
  • Press correspondent’s concessions to be increased from 30% to 50% and permission to take their spouse along with them once in a year.
  • 1000 MW power plant at Lalgarh and New Rail coach factory at Kanchrapara-Halisahar to be set up.
  • Ladies specials during peak hours.
  • Under “DURONTO” scheme non-stop trains to be started, running point to point.
  • For all students concessions of 60%.
  • No fare or freight charges increase.
  • Tatkal tickets can be booked now 2 days before instead of 3 days and charges are decreased from Rs 150 to Rs 100.
  • YUVA trains to be introduced from rural areas to Metro.
  • Group ‘D’ railway employees to get scholarship for their Girl child.
  • Innovative financing mechanism with public-private partnership.

Speaking to media Prime Minister termed this budget as excellent and which take care of all the sections of people specially poor’s. He complemented Railway minister for the competent job she has done in short time.
